This Monochromatic Bedroom is Anything but Boring
Neutral Spaces, if done right, are far from boring. The calm and uncluttered look evokes a sense of calmness and serenity. The key to decorating with neutrals is texture, pattern, and layer different hues of the same color. For designer Olivia Quinlan of Quinlan Design Company, she set upon crafting her master bedroom to be an understated palette that is traditional in a modern way yet has an easy-going feel. Olivia recently moved into a 1902 Victorian home and is renovating room by room with her boyfriend.
Olivia began the project by refinishing the floors, building a master closet, fresh paint, new furniture, and new lighting. Though this room is strictly neutral, it achieves a balance of minimalism and coziness. We love how the lighting is a significant design factor in the space; by layering different light sources, Olivia elevated the bedroom aesthetic to be stylish and functional. Olivia selected Jessa and Doral for her project. “ The light fixtures are the unique part of the room. The overhead, flush mount light gives off such a beautiful glow,” says Olivia.
We love how Olivia used different shades of white, cream, tan and tonal hues to add dimension and depth to the space. The soothing color of the comforter and pillows perfectly contrast the creamy walls and tonal hues. Using various natural elements like stone, wood, jute, and greenery, Olivia balanced out the space to ensure that her monochromatic palette did not fall flat.
