A Nature-Inspired Home Designed to Make Happy Memories
Lauren and her husband Chris recently purchased a new home modeled after an 1890 farmhouse in the quaint small town of Mint Hill, North Carolina. Nestled on a wooded 10-acre property with wildlife and gorgeous greenery, Lauren's home has all the charm and characteristics of an old farmhouse with antique doors, hinges, fireplaces, wide plank floors, and banisters. Lauren's dream is to live on a property with rolling hills where their daughters Finley and Campbell's ponies and horses could retire, and their families' menageries of seven rescue pets could run free.
“We are all nature-inspired people, so soft earth tones with pops of color speak to all of us.”
Lauren grew up riding horses, so she was naturally drawn to the great outdoors. Her husband, Chris, is an avid golfer, so when designing her home, it was essential to bring the outside in. "Our family loves color, in particular blue and green. We love anything that reflects a beautiful grass golf course with a bright blue sky. We are all nature-inspired people, so soft earth tones with pops of color speak to all of us," she says.
"Joy to me is made by using pieces that I genuinely love.”
Lauren designed her family's home to be warm, inviting, meaningful, and authentic to their passions. She loves using pieces that have personal meaning and have been in her family for decades, such as an upright piano and an old built-in hutch full of silver pieces that she won as a child on her ponies and horses. Lauren created her home to tell their story with family photos, memorabilia, and articles collected over time. "Joy to me is made by using pieces that I genuinely love. Those may be colors showcased in beautiful pillows or artwork that speaks to me. Joy can also happen by making smart design choices to make living in a space effortless," she says.
"A lighting fixture truly makes a room shine, whether simple or big and bold, lighting is a great task feature but the most fun design element."
Lauren's home is filled with soft design elements, textured light wood tones, soft pops of blues, greens, and splashs of pink. "It is important to create a space that works great for easy daily living but is still visually pleasing. Elements such as performance fabrics, extra storage pieces, smart furniture layouts for ease of traffic, these are all elements that contribute to a smart design," she says. Her furniture is comfortable yet structured and she says her favorite piece in the home is the jewelry of lighting. "A lighting fixture truly makes a room shine, whether simple or big and bold, lighting is a great task feature but the most fun design element."
