We had the pleasure of being an official sponsor and worked with so many fantastic design influencers. Each week our designers shared their progress with us, and we are now excited to share their design plans and final reveal with you. Each week we will unveil a new ORC reveal on our blog. Mehr was born and raised in Pakistan, but calls Virginia her home now for the past 15 years. She completed her undergraduate in Finance and Economics but then went on to study clinical social work for her Masters. She is a practicing therapist by day and designs and creates as a form of self care. “My love of design comes from the women in my life, my mother and mother-in-law have always had a deep appreciation for the arts. They have inspired me to look at the intricate details, be it in artistry of hand knotting a Persian rug, the brushstrokes in a painting or the texture of different fabrics and textile. My culture and heritage also plays a big part in my love for color and mixing the unexpected, says Mehr.

Q. How do you describe your design style?

My design I feel is modern traditional, I tend to gravitate towards the traditional silhouettes but with modern touches. I love to mix and match eastern elements with more western trends.

Designing a themed Bedroom

Mehr took on her son’s bedroom. “ The design inspiration for my kid’s room was the old traditional circus, grand, exciting, and full of wonder. I wanted this to be a space that sparked creativity and imagination, where play was encouraged and celebrated, says Mehr.

Q. How did you achieve this look?

This was the most fun I’ve had designing any room. The concept started when my son shared that he would like a circus room. As soon as the theme was decided, I knew I needed a tent ceiling, red that is synonymous with the circus, and a light fixture that was grand enough to be in a circus but still fit perfectly into a small bedroom.

Why did you Select the Odelle?

The Odelle light by Crystorama was a perfect fit for this room as it had the ideal shape. The circular cutouts gave the effect of spotlights in a circus. It had the glamour I was looking for, but it perfectly fits in a little boy's room in such a subtle way. Another factor for my choice was this fixture's versatility. It will be a great piece that will transition so well into other design plans in the future.

Q. What are some of your tips when designing a themed kid’s room?

The best way to design a themed kid's room is to create an experience rather than just filling it with themed items. When one walks into the space they are transported into that era, that adventure, that event. You want people to feel they are at the circus when they enter, not that they have entered a room where a circus fan lives. Also, don't be afraid to deviate from the expected. Sometimes the surprise factor can be the most fun thing in the room.
